The Grassmarket Centre, designed by Gareth Hoskins Architects for the Grassmarket Mission and Greyfriars Kirk, is home to the Grassmarket Community Project and was nominated for the prestigious Scottish Civic Trust My Place Award 2014 by the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland.
The new building, called the Grassmarket Centre, was officially opened in April last year and offers first-class performance, exhibition, meeting and conference space as well as enhanced facilities for it’s core users at the Project.
The judges said, “This is a high-class facility for it’s members and wider Edinburgh community. It is a people-led project that radiates warmth, humanity and a sense of equality. It is innovative, full of natural light, and has been woven seamlessly into the fabric of the adjoining buldings, streetscape and Greyfriars churchyard.”
The Grassmarket Centre has also been shortlisted for the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) Awards which will be announced in June.
