The alarming increase in food poverty in the UK has led to the imminent establishment of the Edinburgh Central Foodbank, organised under the Trussell Trust. Under this scheme, people in need are referred by agencies who know and have identified them as people in need (GCP is one such agency) and will be offered hospitality and a hand-up with a supply of food.
Volunteers will be welcome for a variety of tasks. Anyone interested in assisting with this venture should contact the Grassmarket Community Project.
