It’s been a very wet month but work still goes on between downpours and the builders have attached the sill plates to cap the foundation walls, erected the frame for the frontage and started work on the walling to the back car park at Warden’s Close which will feature the service entrance and fire escape corridor.
The new frontage will be a simple glass wall spanning the adjoining rubble tenement walls with a timber colonnade in front emphasising the new entrance and drawing visitors away from the original Kirkhouse entrance which will no longer be used.
Work on the floating floor has begun which provides a plenum for air movement deep into the building to naturally ventilate the hall. You can see from the photographs that work on the hall flooring has been started and covered with plastic sheeting to protect it from the weather.
